Maiden's Tower: Istanbul's Memory on the Water
The Maiden's Tower is one of those Istanbul landmarks that feels larger than its physical size. Standing on a small islet off Uskudar, it has served as a defensive point, watchtower, lighthouse, quarantine station and customs post across different periods. Today it is one of the most poetic silhouettes of the Bosphorus.

Its best-known stories are built around love and fate. In the legend of Hero and Leander, the tower becomes the setting for a tragic love across the water. In another popular tale, a sultan locks his daughter in the tower to protect her from a prophecy, only for fate to find her anyway. These stories matter because they show how deeply the tower lives in Istanbul's imagination.
Museum Visit and Skyline Views
After its recent restoration, the tower is mainly visited as a museum and viewpoint. Inside, displays explain its changing roles; outside, the view brings Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Sultanahmet, Galata and Uskudar into the same frame.
